Archive for the ‘Knight Models’ Category

Well this was certainly a pleasant surprise. Knight Models has released character cards for their Suicide Squad box set for their DC Universe Miniatures Game. Well, just the Suicide Squad side. Still no rules regarding Batfleck, Joker or his crew. Still, this added 8 new characters from one game to another, effectively giving anyone who might only play the Batman Miniatures Game all they’d need to dive into the other rule set.

With a new team comes a new Team Ability card, too!

And curse them for teasing Amanda Waller and Enchantress. Both of them were listed in the Suicide Squad rule book but we’ve yet to see either of them yet. Heck, we’re still waiting on Raven and Grodd that we’re teased forever ago.

Anyways, as someone who broke into the BMG with the Suicide Squad box set (and awesome birthday present from my friends), this tiny little update it amazing to me. I now have an extra 7 figures (Flagg was released later and haven’t gotten him yet) to add to the table top.

Sound off in the comments below if you plan on running any/all of the Suicide Squad on your next game night.

Happy gaming!

June is about over which means it is time for Knight Models to release their upcoming preorder list. This time around, we get a nice mix of the two games with two of the releases being a part of their new Multiverse line.

First up, the most important…Wonder Woman!

This makes me so happy that I can’t express into words properly. First, the Holy Trinity is officially playable in Batman Miniatures Game!

Batman Miniatures Game stat card (top) and DC Universe Miniatures Game stat card (bottom)

The thing that is holding me back from getting super excited about the Batman Miniatures Game card is the mounted figure rules. A mount is an upgrade to a character. Whenever you field a mounted character, you have to also have a no -mounted version of the character as well to represent if the mount is destroyed or lost. Currently, there is only one other Wonder Woman figure available and that is in the Batman v Superman (Trinity) set for the DC Universe Miniatures Game.

That nitpick aside, the model is gorgeous, both in physical design and gameplay design. I think what will be a big reason for fielding her is the Godkiller ability. In the BMG, it grants all of her attacks the Magic Weapon special rules and immunity from certain effects. In DCUMG, it grants +1 to Attack and Damage to all attacks against models Level 20 or more. This is a great bonus against characters like Darkseid and Doomsday.

Joining Diana on the battlefield of both games comes the Amazons of Themyscira:

Queen Hippolyta and her Amazon Warriors

Another Multiverse release, the set includes stat cards for both of their games!

Now, I could be wrong (and if I am, please correct me in the comments below), but in the BMG you are only allowed to field one model with the Legends classification per force. This means that Hippolyta and Wonder Woman can never be on the same team. However, they can be used in the DCUMG for a team level of 49. The updated suggested build is teams at Level 60, so you still have a little wiggle room for another character.

Now, if I could just get a Steve Trevor and the rest of the squad, I can be a happy man. Granted, it might be a little weird seeing World War 2 era characters on the streets of Gotham, but I’m willing to do that.

Rounding out the Batman Miniatures Game comes an update for the Court of Owls factions- The Parliament of Owls:

I’m always down for increasing any/all factions that are preexisting. The Court of Owls definitely could use it. Over all, standard fair for the stat cards. Though the models for the 1880’s Talon and the High Court Lady look awesome. I’d be interested in trying to paint the fur on the High Court figure.

In addition to the Batman Miniatures Game releases, we have some DC Universe Miniatures Game only releases.
First up, everyone’s favorite Martian- Martian Manhunter

I don’t know why I just love that pose. It’s just so stoic and imposing.

J’onn is a bit of a multi-terrain tank. He’s defense can shift to benefit you depending on the teams you’re facing. He’s offensively adaptable at range and close combat. At Level 15, fits most hero teams as a strong secondary power bourse.

Finally, we have the good doctor himself, Doctor Fate:

That pose is classic and gorgeous. I am curious, though, in how well the figure is attacked to the base. Hopefully it doesn’t suffer from small ankles like some of their others.

Doctor Fate feels like a magical glass cannon. In the right situation, he can tie up and bind many characters. For the most part, the range on his attacks will keep him from harm’s way, but a few good shots and he’ll drop like a fly.

Over all, super excited for this month’s preorders. Which ones are you excited for? Which ones are you skipping? Sign off in the comments below.

Happy gaming.

Knight Models have revealed a new character and his minions for the Batman Miniatures Game– Professor Pyg and Dollotrons!

The good Professor and his lackies…(photo by Knights Models)

For those unfamiliar with Professor Pyg, he was introduction during Grant Morrison’s fantastic run on Batman prior to the New 52 relaunch. He was a prominent villain for Dick Grayson during his tenor as Batman, kidnapping victims and turning them into his “Dollotrons” through various robotics, surgical manipulation and drug use.  These Dollotrons are generally genderless monstrousities he created in the pursuit of making people perfect.

This piece is based on the Professor’s appearance in Batman: Arkham Knight. The video game version is a rather faithful translation of the source material, especially his use of a traveling circus called the “Circus of Strange” as a front for his crimes and experiements.

Professor Pyg’s stat card.

For 90 Reputation and $150 funding, you get a solid figure with two key attributes that I think is fantastic:

  • Medic– He can help remove either 1 blood damage or 2 stun damage from a friendly model. This is an absolute boost to some builds that didn’t have the option to get a medic on the field because of rank or affiliation restrictions.
  • Special Traits: Dollotrons– When hiring Professor Pyg, you get to recruit 3 Dollotrons at no additional cost. This give you 4 figures on the board for a measly 90/$150. The Dollotrons themselves, when alone or outnumbered, aren’t amazing but they have a great ability when kept close to the Professor.

Speaking of the Dollotrons’ abilities…

Dollotrons’ stat card.

As I said before, nothing to amazing except the 6 endurance and the Special Trait Creations of Perfection. The trait makes them worthless (point wise) for being KO’d or made a casualty, which makes them fearless tieup pieces. It also allows them to take any attack that would be directed at Professor Pyg so long as they are within 5cm and have 1sc to spend.

The down side to these beautiful creatures is that they can only be hire with Professor Pyg and, as such, can only be recruited at a max of three models. I had a beautiful team in mind for them if more than three could be used on a team. Oh well. It is still a fantastic set.

This is one I know I am looking forward to. What say the rest of you? Is this a must have for your Batman Miniatures Game collection or a pass for now? Sound off in the comments below and, until next time, happy gaming!

Not even a day after announcing the awesome DC Multiverse range of models, Knight Models posted their March preorders for their April releases.  These are available for preorder now until March 28th, expected shipping date is April 3rd.

The biggest item up has to be the Arkham Knight Campaign Book

First, it’s contains an all new campaign around the Batman: Arkham Knight video game. It also contain at several new rules for multiple new modes of play, as well as update equipment and more.  I’m extremely curious about the “multiplayer scenarios”, as I have a play group of 4-8 people at any given time

Also of importance is the new Akrham Knight model that is the preorder bonus.  It comes with three different head variants, making it very intriguing to buy three copies of the book. They treated us the card for this model several weeks ago.

Arkham Knight Campaign Book exclusive Arkham Knight stats.

A couple more releases the Arkham Knight game round out the selection for the Batman Miniatures Game, including a brand new Nightwing:

We also are get a new Penguin and Street Demonz crew box:

Always happy to see new gang members to flesh out crews. A little disappointed that Reaver and Simmons are both wearing gas masks but do not have the traits, however.

Finally from Arkham Knight, we Penguin Lieutenant:

Also up for the Batman Miniature Game is the Catwoman I talked about here yesterday:

First model from the newly announced DC Multiverse range.

Multiverse models feature stay cards for both the Batman Miniatures Game (top) and the DC Universe Miniatures Game (bottom).

Moving on, Knight Models are also giving us two new models for the DC Universe Miniatures Game.

First, we have the cousin of Superman, Supergirl:

Finally, they are giving us the King of Atlantis, Aquaman:

His abilities are giving me all kinds of ideas for a water heavy board, as well as trying to add more water to the existing boards.

All in all, some great releases to come out in April. I think my top three must haves are going to be the new Campaign book, Catwoman, and Aquaman.  I wish Supergirl were a DC Multiverse model, giving some extra power to the Batman Miniaturs Game

What do you guys think? What releases are you most excited for?

Until next time, happy gaming!

Today, Knight Models announced via their FaceBook page the introduction of the DC Multiverse range of models. These models will include character cards for both the Batman Miniatures Game and DC Universe Miniature Game. This is exciting and a great step in the right direction after saying good-bye to the Marvel Universe license earlier this year.

Their first announced release for this range is a favorite of mine- Catwoman.

Catwoman as they teased her in Instagram back in January.

Based on her 90’s costume, this look defined Selina Kyle and Catwoman for me.  That’s not to say I’m not a fan of the black leather suit, but this suit screamed comic book femme fatale.  I always thought it was a better look for a character who walked a tight rope between the side of the heroes and villains.

Today they finally showed off her stats. Originally, I was just expecting the card for the Batman Miniatures Game, but surprise!

Batman Miniatures Game card (Top) and DC Universe Miniatures Game card (bottom)

For the Batman Miniatures Game, she looks like a recon queen. Several of her traits allow for quick climbing and the ability to avoid several obstacles that would otherwise slow down a non-flying character.  The Special Trait also allows her to maintain her speed when going after those loot objectives. Most importantly, she finally allows me to do a comic themed Gotham City Sirens build (without using video game models).

With her DC Universe Miniatures Game version, Catwoman is the kind of character I’ve been waiting for.  She is a “neutral” hero, which will allow her to play on multiple teams.  At a Level 6 (her cost to field), she is a fantastic support piece that can tie up heavy hitters as well as debuff their defenses (“Bad Kitty” has the potential to reduce their physical defense by 3 points). Her “Comrade Batman” offers some potentially interesting tag team combos with Batman.

Ultimately, at the end of the day and the model not with standing, this announcement is a fantastic thing for Knight Models in my opinion.  If the models in this range remain at the same cost (not sure how much more the cost is for an additional card), you are getting two miniatures for two different games.  That is impressive by any measurement.  The only thing I hope they offer is some kind of physical purchase for cards of older models that were made (or will be made) playable in one system from the other.

Anyways, happy gaming.

Apologies for another late entry to this.  I attended a friend’s birthday bash late on Saturday and didn’t want to update incase we managed to get in a game or two. That being said, let’s get to it!

500 Games in 2017 Challenge:

So, I have a total of 8 games played, only 1 new. It brings me to 33/500 games played, 6/50 new titles played.  This ties January 2016 in total games played.

CardFight Vanguard:

Finally got in a few games this week.  I think I’ve managed to narrowed down my deck focus to the Shadow Paladins. Kagero will always engulf my heart in the flames, and Link a Jokers are fun, but there is something about the Shadow Paladins that are just amazing.

Batman Miniature Game:

Still haven’t had a chance paint or assemble any more figures, but we did manage to get a game in. It was a four player game, modifying a scenario from the Suicide Squad rule book. It was fun but we still have a lot to learn behind the game.

Relic Knights

So Relic Knights is a game I’ve been interested in for a while now but haven’t really talked about.  When I first looked into possibly dipping my toes into miniature gaming, I researched quiet a few to see where my head would be at in terms of interest. I narrowed it down to three at the time, with Relic Knights making the tight cut.

Fastforward to Saturday morning and I received a text from my friend asking if I’d watched the newest Weekender from the crew at Beasts of War. They had just wrapped up a week of coverage on Relic Knights, giving away a few starter battle boxes.  Evidently I won a set!

That seems to be all from the week (last week). Happy gaming!

This is a day or two late, unfortunately.  Saturday was a bit of a rough day as I had a mishap regarding the miniatures I’d put together a few weeks ago. That not withstanding, here’s the update:

As usual, the 500 Games in 2017 Challenge

This week, I played:

7 games played, with 1 being a new title.  This brings our totals to- 25/500 games played, 5/50 new titles played. I played 33 games in January 2016.  I would like to try hit 34 games at least, which should be possible with a little over a week left.

As always, we move on to CardFight Vanguard

I didn’t get a chance to play any of the game this week. Which is fine as I am still working on building that mythical Mike the Shipwright deck. Speaking of, I got in a second order of them.

I have 10 now, only 6 left to go.

Update to our first KickStarter arrival: Masmorra: Dungeons of Arcadia

We got in a couple games in this week (as noted above), but after the first play, I noticed something about one of the Minor Monster character die:

Damaged die in the left, correct on the right.

Either this was intentionally damaged from the shipment or it occurred after our first game. First, the play surface was 100% clear of any and all nonessential components or debris. Second, I even relocated out cat until another room to make sure she didn’t attack/play with the pieces.

Either way, this is a shame considering the cost and length of the project.  This is even more shameful given the early release the game got at GenCon 2016.  That being said, this definitely a blimish towards an otherwise great game.

Finally, there is the Batman Miniatures Game

As I said earlier, went to primer all the figures I’d assembled due to the lovely weather we had. Somehow, in my stupidity, I ended up dropping the box that had all the components in:

10 out of 18 miniatures broken, plus 1 out of 4 lamps.

Luckily, with the help of our Miniature Guru, Scott, I was able to repair them all and get them primed prior to having to go to my normal job. After getting them primed, the only remaining casualty was the knife on the Joker henchman’s arm.  Again, another miraculous repair job thanks to Scott.

That pretty much wraps up our week in the hobby. Happy gaming!

Another week has gone by meaning time for an update on all things in that happened for us at Late Night Players.

First up, we’ll begin with the 500 Games in 2017 challenge-

This week, we played a total of 12 games between 5 unique titles.  Of those 5 titles, 2 were brand new games never before played in our circle.  The games and their totals were:

This brings are total to: 18/500 games played, 4/50 new titles explored. Not bad for the first two weeks of the year.

Moving on, we have CardFight Vanguard

First, the cards I ordered for my joke deck featuring Mike the Shipwright have started coming in.  I was extremely excited to begin building and testing this deck, then I saw last night’s World Championship finals- Granblue vs Granblue. It was so boring to watch.  And rather the champion cheated or not, he should have definitely been called out for the way that he was shuffling his deck (cards face up).  Both two of those things are a strike against me wanting to continue the construction of this deck.  However, I have to remind myself that I am building neither a G1 or G2 Rush deck, so it hopefully won’t play out that boringly.

I have 4 more in the mail, just have to order the final 6.

Then our order of Revival Collection Vol. 1 came in. The pulls were pretty solid.  We pulled several cards for the clans we actually play. The RRR pulls were:

I got in 3 games of Vanguard in as well. Sadly, I went 1-2.  My brother’s Gear Chronicle deck is just too solid versus either of my Link Joker or Shadow Paladin builds right now.

Moving on, we have received our first KickStarter project of the year: Masmorra: Dungeons of Arcadia

Love the box art on these games!

This was definitely a pleasant surprise to say the least.  We talked a little bit about it here. Now to sleeve up all those beautiful cards and start playing.

Then we move on to Star Wars Destiny

The game is officially the new “hotness” in the tabletop gaming world.  Product is so scarce that $2.99 boosters can fetch $15. Anyways, demoed the game on Wednesday after being told how fantastic it is.  Truth be told, it is rather enjoyable.

Luckily the a couple days later a local shop got in a couple of starters while another a box of boosters.

These plus 6 boosters have us up to a good start.

Finally, the Batman Miniatures Game-

Unfortunately the weather was not holding up well enough to primer this week, nor did I get an opportunity to assemble any of the others we have.  I think I need to take some time off my normal job just to assemble the rest.

Well, that was our week.  Happy gaming!

In an attempt to keep myself better focused in the new year, I am going to do a weekly update on the major areas of the hobby.

First up: 500 Games in 2017

This goal is pretty straight forward- play 500 games this year, 50 of which have to be brand new games I’ve never played before. This week I managed to play a total of 6 games:

Of those 4 games (amassing 6 total plays), 2 of the games were new to me.  Those two being the Batman dice game and Billionaire Banshee.

Next up: Batman Miniatures Game

So this is something new for me.  I’ve never assembled miniatures before. The closest to miniature gaming I’ve accomplished has been Heroclix over the years.  My brother got me so much more to add to my Suicide Squad box.  I’m now up to that set as well as the Joker crew and Halrey crew set, as well as classic Harley Quinn and “Killing Joke” Joker.  I got Rob Nightwing, Cyborg and Kid Flash so he could have figures in the game he would enjoy playing.  I also got some terrain pieces from my Secret Santa at work.

I had a couple days off so I started to assemble some:

Miniatures from the Suicide Squad box set

These were fun to assemble.  With the exception of a handful of issues, rather proud of these.  I also managed to get the lamp posts assembled. Totally proud of these.  These are definitely a growing interest, especially considering the other games Knight Models are doing.

Then we’ll move on to…Dragon Ball Z

Yeah…that was fun. (Click the link to read my opinions on the recent cancelation)

Final: Cardfight Vanguard

New set launched this week- Revival Collection Vol. 1, but I haven’t bought any yet. First, my local shop didn’t per usual.  So I’ll have to order online. Second, with the cancelation of Dragon Ball Z, I find myself debating on what deck I’d like to focus on.  Right now, I have a Kagero, Link Joker and Shadow Palin deck. None are competitive at all and I’d like to try playing some tournaments. So I’m looking at singles vs what is coming set wise.

Also, I didn’t mange a single match this week. See what I did play above.

In coming weeks, this will definitely be more organized. I have some ideas of what I’d like to accomplish with this blog, but more on that soon.

Happy gaming!
