Not much is known at the moment, beyond that the game will feature an overarching storyline and “unique gameplay mechanics”. They have said that a handful of characters from the game will be released at the announce D23 event next month, so hopefully we’ll get some more information then.

‘Gargoyles’ Awaken On The Tabletop

Ravensburger is set to bring the classic Disney cartoon Gargoyles to the tabletop this August!

Look at that beautiful box art!

Honestly, we’re ashamed to say we missed this story when it broke back in February. Ravensburger, publisher of the massive popular Disney Villianous boardgame, will be releasing a new boardgame based on the infamous Gargoyles cartoon.

Per the official announcement:

“In the game, players take on the role of one of six heroes: Goliath, Brooklyn, Lexington, Broadway, Hudson, or Detective Elisa Maza. Working together, they’ll take on Xanatos and Demona in four different scenarios. Players do battle on three-dimensional cityscape board showing Manhattan as it was presented in the cartoon, complete with Xanatos’ castle—topped skyscraper, the police clock tower, and more.”

The scenarios for game sound like they are straight from the show, which makes it all the better!

  • Reawakening: “Players face off against Xanatos and Demona, and must save Coldstone’s mind.”
  • Temptation and Magic: “Demona has stolen the Grimorum Arcanorum and used the magic to enslave innocents.”
  • Information Warfare: “Players must collect three stolen data disks.”
  • Battle with the Steel Clan: “One player takes the role of Xanatos and the Steel Clan and tries to either defeat a hero or destroy the police tower while the other players (as the Gargoyles) try to defeat Xanatos.”

The art on the box looks like the designers are going with the original aesthetics and not trying to modernize it. That is a fantastic thing as a game like this will appeal to those of us olde enough to remember watching the cartoon as it originally air, as well as the whole new generation being introduced to the show thinks to Disney+. Furthermore, the hero characters look to be plastic miniatures, capturing them in perfect detail.

We truly hope we’ll see Xanatos and Demona as miniatures as well. We have a feeling, either way, we’re going to have to get two copies of the game at release so that we can paint up a set of the miniatures.

Gargoyles: Awakening is a family game for 2 to 5 players, ages 10 and up, and looks like it’ll retail for $34.99 when it launches exclusively in Target stores nationwide on August 1.

So, what do you all think? Ready to “live again” or has your heart turned to stone on this Saturday morning staple from the 90’s? Sound off in the comments below and let us know.

As always, until next time, keep your dice warm and happy gaming.
